You'll have a choice each day of Wildlife or Landscape themed activities, you may be able to make the same choice for consecutive days, but we'll want to ensure everyone gets chance to choose, and places are limited. We'll also be together for some sessions as a group.
We have a wealth of information on wildlife to photograph, know all the best locations, and techniques for getting the best results, although if you just want to watch through binoculars, thats fine too! Each day there will be a wildlife option for you.
We'll travel to amazing locations and share experience of settings and techniques to get the best out of your trip. There will be beaches, moorland, mountains, heather, waves, clouds, and we'll get the most out of the amazing light with aim for sunrise and sunset shots. Each day there will be a landscape photography option for you.
In the evening, after food, we'll organise night sky shoots, weather permitting of course. If there's aurora, we'll show you how to get the best out of it, but if there isn't then we'll use those dark skies to focus on stars and other celestial objects.
We can provide advice on travel, and collect from port or airport etc. Its actually quite easy to get to Lewis, so get in touch if you have any questions.
The accomodation is exclusive use of Ravenspoint Hostel. It's a cosy hostel and not a hotel, so there will be some sharing of rooms and facilities. There is a small shop next door, and we'll advise on any other shopping you might need ahead of the experience. There's also a laundry and drying area. Hostel sleeping arrangements are that you will be expected to sleep in appropriate dormitories unless booking as a couple (one couple place per course).
We can tailor your experience, so if there is something that concerns you, then please do get in touch. Having two instructors gives us flexibility as we'll be dividing our programme in two each day, and then coming together on occasion too (for nightsky work). If you have dietary or access requirements, please just let us know when booking and we'll make all the reasonable adjustments we possibly can.
Food is pretty crucial - and you'll have the flexibility with the hostel kitchen to eat & cook pretty much what you want to. We'll stock the basics with tea/coffee/bread/milk etc and you can then do your own thing, with a bit of help where needed. Last night we'll have an unforgettable meal out.
This is an experience that we want you to enjoy. We want you to get the maximum out of it that you possibly can; so we definitely want to hear what you need, and what you want, and wherever possible, we'll aim to provide that.
Our last night will see a celebration with awards, certificates and a wonderful meal. Something to remind you of your trip and some more great memories.
To book your place, you need to pay a non-refundable deposit of £447 - this represents 50% of the fee, and this is non-refundable due to sunk costs preparing the experience.
Two weeks prior to the experience, you'd need to pay the remainder. If you choose to you can pay the whole amount up front, that is up to you. If weather, ill-health or travel prevent the experience happening for you then we'd refund this amount but not the deposit unfortunately. We'd always want to reschedule with you if that was possible.
You'll need to pay for your own travel to and from the Isle of Lewis. Each course will need to work together on a shopping order which you'll being paying for yourselves. Extras like alcohol or tobacco are not included. We will provide basic hot drink making supplies. There is a small and lovely shop next door.
The wildlife in the Outer Hebrides is unique, and our experienced team will ensure you are given the opportunity to see Eagles, Otters, Seals, a variety of birds as well as the staggering environment.
The landscape of Lewis and Harris is stunning - dramatic beaches, powerful waves, skies like nowhere else, and we'll take you to the best locations at the right time of day or night on your trip
Our team are experienced night sky photographers and we are lucky to have some of the darkest skies in the UK here - so buckle up for stars, meteors, and aurora (although it is hard to predict it, here is the best place to see it!)
We won't leave you on a beach with no input - we'll be there with you, giving you input where you need it and letting you get on with it if you don't. We'll share with you our experience and local knowledge.
The Ravenspoint Hostel is located in the heart of Lewis and Harris - it is peaceful, comfortable and next to stunning Loch Erisort. A prime location for exploring the Hebrides with us.
We want you to leave our trip with unforgettable memories, friendships, and above all photos of your time here with us. We'll share the experience with you. We can't wait to meet you and share our love of Lewis and Harris.
